My day so far

Today I am sitting at the switchboard answering the phone.
Switchboard is not now nor has ever been my job.
We currently have 1 full time operator. The second switchboard operator quit 2 months ago to move up north with her new boyfriend. She gave close to 2 months notice.
As of this date she has not been replaced.

The switchboard operator called in sick today. The backup person also called in sick today.
2 other part-time employees are doing other tasks and could not full in. That left the VOIP administrator, one of the folks at the Help Desk and myself who have been trained, albeit briefly,
to fill in the gaps.

Maybe its just me but you would think it shouldn't be all that hard to keep a 2 person department staffed. Especially when notice was given far in advance. Like I said, maybe its just me.

Upon further thought it has come to my realization that planning is not one of the strong points for many of the administrator types around here. Time and time again plans that are made here just fall apart. I swear that once an administrator reaches a higher level of pay their brains turn to mush.
